Dream Trips

Trips I'm planning, a few I'd like to do someday, and ones I've done.

Planned

Sailing to Lake Lanier's islands and operating my ham radio from them for the US Islands amateur radio awards program.

    • Boat: Com-Pac Picnic Cat Bluebell
  • March 2027

    Lake Jocassee

Two nights at the boat-in campsites at Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee, South Carolina, aboard Bluebell, as a shakedown for the Florida 120.

Someday

  • Lake Lanier circumnavigation

Sailing all the way around Lake Lanier, my home waters.

  • The Great Loop

The roughly 6,000-mile loop around eastern North America by way of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, the Great Lakes, the inland rivers, and the Gulf of Mexico.

  • US to Norway

An ocean passage across the North Atlantic from the US to Norway.

  • Texas 200

A five-day small-boat raid of about 200 miles along the bays of the Texas coast, camping on shore each night.

  • St. George Island circumnavigation

Sailing all the way around St. George Island, the barrier island near Apalachicola, Florida, with Apalachicola Bay on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other.

  • US Islands activations

Sailing to the barrier islands of Florida and the Southeast, and operating my ham radio from them for the US Islands amateur radio awards program.

  • Miami to Bimini

Crossing the Gulf Stream from Miami to Bimini in the Bahamas and back, about 50 miles each way.

  • US to Bermuda

An offshore passage from the US to Bermuda and back, several days out of sight of land each way.

Completed

  • December 2025 – January 2026

Apalachicola Bay and St. George Island

My first trip on Bluebell: six sails in the bays behind St. George Island, launched from the St. George Island boat ramp and Battery Park Marina in Apalachicola, Florida.
