I took the Capri 22 Seal Dog out of Holiday Marina solo and sailed about 2.5 nm northwest up the lake, then back, in a light southwest wind. The trip came to 9.9 nm in a little under 4 hours.
In Big Creek, I checked the wind with my Davis hand bearing compass and found it wasn’t coming from the forecast direction. The video shows how.
Arrows show the direction of travel. Point of sail compares the boat's course with the wind measured at KGVL, so short stretches can be off when the wind on the water differs. Shoreline: USGS National Hydrography Dataset.
