Conditions: SSW 2 to 6 knots, 83 to 84°F, mostly cloudy; lake 4.3 ft below full pool
I put a 150% genoa on the Capri 22 Hot Dog to catch whatever light air there was. There was no wind to speak of, so I drifted, and motored when I wanted to get anywhere. The lake was full of powerboats, and their wakes made the water choppy and confused. It was hot and humid.
Lesson for next time: when PredictWind shows less than 5 knots, especially in summer when powerboats have the run of the lake, it isn’t worth going out.
Arrows show the direction of travel. Point of sail compares the boat's course with the wind measured at KGVL, so short stretches can be off when the wind on the water differs. Shoreline: USGS National Hydrography Dataset.
How windy was this sail?
With a typical wind of 4 knots, this sail was calmer than 57 of my 63 Lake Lanier sails. See them all on Sailing Lake Lanier.
